KC Yoga Therapy is a co-creation by yoga teachers in the Kansas City area that wanted an organized way of becoming certified yoga therapists under the tutelage of J. Renée DeTar and her life-long friends in yoga, including her past faculty from The Institute of Interdisciplinary Yoga Studies and prominent guest teachers. The curriculum is in the process of becoming an accredited yoga therapy school with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and the National Ayurveda Medical Association Medical Association. What is unique about this program is that all (therapists in training, faculty and guest teachers) agree upon the philosophical foundation of what yoga therapy is and what makes it different from just taking a yoga class that includes the sister science of Ayurveda. The healing starts within, first and foremost - within the yoga therapist - so that sharing and teaching the possibilities of transformation come from experience....not just through memorized protocol and techniques. We invite you to read our foundational philosophy, by clicking here.
Our curriculum is offered in the Kansas City and Atchison, Kansas area. This is a 800 Hour Yoga Therapy Certification that is under review by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). Beginning 2018, all applicants who have had no formal training with J. Renée DeTar are required to take the Bridge Program to establish and develop skills, theory and methods necessary to enter the KC Yoga Therapist training program.
